Reboot, Rebuild, Reimagine
Celebrating RSM, its work, and its community.
Since its inception in 2021, the Institute for Rebooting Social Media (RSM) has committed itself to tackling the most pressing issues in the social media space, from online safety and harassment to content moderation and creation. The Institute has welcomed leading academics, industry professionals, and civic leaders to develop and execute on projects that offer remedies to these issues, challenging the status quo of the current online landscape. RSM has also hosted dozens of events and workshops over the years accessible to the general public, including the RSM Speaker Series and “Now & Next: Platform Accountability and Content Governance“.
Now, RSM is pleased to share Reboot, Rebuild, Reimagine—a capstone publication featuring original thoughts and writing from staff and the community, and program highlights from the Institute over the last three years. This magazine-style report includes articles highlighting outstanding projects that were developed at the Institute, short essays from RSM’s Visiting Scholars on the current state of social media, and an interview with RSM Faculty Co-Director James Mickens as he reflects on social media research and potential obstacles ahead.
