October 9, 2024

October 9, 12:30 PM–October 9, 1:30 PM

The Institute for Rebooting Social Media welcomes former Visiting Scholar Joe Walther and current BKC Fellow Sahana Udupa to discuss the recent edited volume, Social Processes of Online Hate.

Where does online hate come from? How do these haters organize themselves to direct hate to certain people? Why do these campaigns of hate happen at all?

The Institute for Rebooting Social Media is pleased to welcome 2023-2024 Visiting Scholar Joe Walther to discuss his new edited volume, Social Processes of Online Hate, which examines and seeks to explain the social factors that facilitate the spread of hate messages across social media platforms. The conversation will be moderated by Walther, who will be joined by contributor and 2024-2025 BKC Fellow Sahana Udupa.

This event will be held at the Berkman Klein Center (room 515) from 12:30pm-1:30pm ET. Lunch will be served! In-person attendance is limited to Harvard ID holders, but the general public is invited to attend virtually via Zoom.
